I am writing this to give anyone that wanted to know a bit about what went on at the Cal-4 Wheel Convention in Visalia some of the basic information.

There were many topics covered, and this is just a small amount of the information.

One thing that was discussed and should be of note to all member clubs is the new policy on voting.   In the past, there needed to be a quorum in order for the association to vote and pass measures.   This has been updated.   Now a simple majority of clubs in attendance can set policy for all clubs... Bottom Line: if you want a say, show up and vote!

2-27-08: I will be updating this over the next few weeks as I get more paperwork in order....

Old Business:

Update Film Preservation: Cal 4 Wheel previously authorized the expenditure of up to $5000 on the restoration of all old films that were in the Cal-4 Wheel archives to good condition.   All films were restored and are now on the proper plastic reels, all splices were fixed, the films physically restored and they are now being stored in a climate controlled vault of the restoration company.

After the restoration project, the films were transferred onto a single digital track with the restoration company.  They can now be reviewed and transferred to DVD.   If no footage is removed, there is enough film to completely fill approximately 32 DVD's.   The film preservation committee will set a time to review the film and decide what footage is suitable for transfer to DVD's.

Once transferred to master DVD's, the C4W can decide what to do with it.   The cost to transfer all footage onto 32 DVD's would be approximately $5000.

It was suggested that the footage may be of value in keeping trails open by demonstrating that trails that anti-access groups deny have been in use have actually been in use for many years.    C4W could also market and sell DVD's to recover the costs of the film restoration and potentially make profit for the association.

Barret Lake Bridge Report

The bridge for the Barret Lake trail is expected to be set during the summer of 2010.   There will need to be much volunteer work before that time, more information on times and dates will be set in the near future as the work will need to be completed during the summer of 2008 and 2009.

Convention 2009:

Convention 2009 will be held at State Line Nevada (I-15).  I believe it is the Whiskey Pete's hotel, I will update this with the exact dates (which are already set) and special room rates.

Convention 2009 will mark the 50th anniversary for the association and is expected to be a large event.
